BOEDDHISME
Over enkele dagen vertrekken we voor de 8e keer voor een reis naar India. We zijn in totaal 18 dagen weg.
Eerst gaan we naar het noordoosten van India naar enkele plaatsen die met het leven van de Boeddha te maken hebben zoals zijn geboorte- en sterfplaats, en de plek waar hij vaak les heeft gegeven. Er zijn nog ruines over en er is activiteit van toeristen/pelgrims. Ik weet niet of het interessant is met al die ruines. Misschien is het wel wat saai maar desondanks wil ik het wel zien. Bert kan zich meer bij ruines voorstellen dan ik.
We verblijven ook enkele dagen in Nepal, in Lumbini, de geboorteplaats van de Boeddha. Voor de rondrit hebben we voor 10 dagen een taxi met Engels sprekende chauffeur gehuurd. We hebben alle hotels besproken.
Tot onze verbazing bleek dat we in alle plaatsen ook de beschikking hebben over een lokale gids, de we niet hebben gevraagd. De prijs verandert er niet door. Ik vermoed dat de gidsen voornamelijk van onze fooien moeten leven. Dat is ongeveer 3 tot 5 euro per dag. Dat is een minimum dagloon in India.
KUMBH MELA ALLAHABAD
Vervolgens duiken we ons onder in het hindoeisme, in het Kumbh Mela festival. Dat is 's werelds grootste festival. Het duurt twee maanden, in totaal komen er meer dan 100 miljoen mensen. Uit heel India en Nepal komen de saddhu's (heilige mannen en ook enkele vrouwen) hier op pelgrimstocht. Het belangrijkste evenement is een duik in de heilige Ganges.
Het festival wordt gehouden op een tijdstip dat er een bepaalde gunstige sterren-constructie aan de hemel is. Dit komt een keer per 12 jaar voor. De vorige keer hebben we vanuit Varanasi een uitstapje gemaakt naar de Kumbh Mela. We vonden dat heel bijzonder. Er gebeurde van alles waar we niets van begrepen. Bovendien is het heel kleurrijk.
We blijven twee nachten. Dat leek ons lang genoeg met al die drukte. Eerst wilde ik een hotel in Allahabad boeken maar dat kostte minimaal 400 euro per kamer. Bovendien duurt het enkele uren voordat je vanuit de stad op het festivalterrein komt door alle drukte. Dus hebben we maar een luxe tent voor toeristen op het festivalterrein geboekt inclusief alle maaltijden.
We maken niet een van de hoogtepunten mee met processies. Als die plaatsvinden, moet je mimimaal 5 dagen blijven omdat er dan geen vervoer mogelijk is. Dat vonden we te lang.
We hebben wel voor de hele periode van het festival een gids tot onze beschikking. Hij brengt ons naar de badplaatsen en de verblijfplaatsen van verschillende groepen saddhu's en naga's (naakte heilige mannen die zich met as insmeren.)
Als uitsmijter gaan we nog enkele dagen naar Varanasi, de meest heilige plaats van India. We zijn er jaren geleden een week geweest en vonden het zo bijzonder dat we er nog eens naar toe willen. Varanasi ligt ook aan de Ganges. Hier wordt ook vaak een heilige duik genomen en hier vinden veel crematies plaats.

BOEDDHISME
Over enkele dagen vertrekken we voor de 8e keer voor een reis naar India. We zijn in totaal 18 dagen weg.
Eerst gaan we naar het noordoosten van India naar enkele plaatsen die met het leven van de Boeddha te maken hebben zoals zijn geboorte- en sterfplaats, en de plek waar hij vaak les heeft gegeven. Er zijn nog ruines over en er is activiteit van toeristen/pelgrims. Ik weet niet of het interessant is met al die ruines. Misschien is het wel wat saai maar desondanks wil ik het wel zien. Bert kan zich meer bij ruines voorstellen dan ik.
We verblijven ook enkele dagen in Nepal, in Lumbini, de geboorteplaats van de Boeddha. Voor de rondrit hebben we voor 10 dagen een taxi met Engels sprekende chauffeur gehuurd. We hebben alle hotels besproken.
Tot onze verbazing bleek dat we in alle plaatsen ook de beschikking hebben over een lokale gids, de we niet hebben gevraagd. De prijs verandert er niet door. Ik vermoed dat de gidsen voornamelijk van onze fooien moeten leven. Dat is ongeveer 3 tot 5 euro per dag. Dat is een minimum dagloon in India.
KUMBH MELA ALLAHABAD
Vervolgens duiken we ons onder in het hindoeisme, in het Kumbh Mela festival. Dat is 's werelds grootste festival. Het duurt twee maanden, in totaal komen er meer dan 100 miljoen mensen. Uit heel India en Nepal komen de saddhu's (heilige mannen en ook enkele vrouwen) hier op pelgrimstocht. Het belangrijkste evenement is een duik in de heilige Ganges.
Het festival wordt gehouden op een tijdstip dat er een bepaalde gunstige sterren-constructie aan de hemel is. Dit komt een keer per 12 jaar voor. De vorige keer hebben we vanuit Varanasi een uitstapje gemaakt naar de Kumbh Mela. We vonden dat heel bijzonder. Er gebeurde van alles waar we niets van begrepen. Bovendien is het heel kleurrijk.
We blijven twee nachten. Dat leek ons lang genoeg met al die drukte. Eerst wilde ik een hotel in Allahabad boeken maar dat kostte minimaal 400 euro per kamer. Bovendien duurt het enkele uren voordat je vanuit de stad op het festivalterrein komt door alle drukte. Dus hebben we maar een luxe tent voor toeristen op het festivalterrein geboekt inclusief alle maaltijden.
We maken niet een van de hoogtepunten mee met processies. Als die plaatsvinden, moet je mimimaal 5 dagen blijven omdat er dan geen vervoer mogelijk is. Dat vonden we te lang.
We hebben wel voor de hele periode van het festival een gids tot onze beschikking. Hij brengt ons naar de badplaatsen en de verblijfplaatsen van verschillende groepen saddhu's en naga's (naakte heilige mannen die zich met as insmeren.)
Als uitsmijter gaan we nog enkele dagen naar Varanasi, de meest heilige plaats van India. We zijn er jaren geleden een week geweest en vonden het zo bijzonder dat we er nog eens naar toe willen. Varanasi ligt ook aan de Ganges. Hier wordt ook vaak een heilige duik genomen en hier vinden veel crematies plaats.

BOEDDHISME
Over enkele dagen vertrekken we voor de 8e keer voor een reis naar India. We zijn in totaal 18 dagen weg.
Eerst gaan we naar het noordoosten van India naar enkele plaatsen die met het leven van de Boeddha te maken hebben zoals zijn geboorte- en sterfplaats, en de plek waar hij vaak les heeft gegeven. Er zijn nog ruines over en er is activiteit van toeristen/pelgrims. Ik weet niet of het interessant is met al die ruines. Misschien is het wel wat saai maar desondanks wil ik het wel zien. Bert kan zich meer bij ruines voorstellen dan ik.
We verblijven ook enkele dagen in Nepal, in Lumbini, de geboorteplaats van de Boeddha. Voor de rondrit hebben we voor 10 dagen een taxi met Engels sprekende chauffeur gehuurd. We hebben alle hotels besproken.
Tot onze verbazing bleek dat we in alle plaatsen ook de beschikking hebben over een lokale gids, de we niet hebben gevraagd. De prijs verandert er niet door. Ik vermoed dat de gidsen voornamelijk van onze fooien moeten leven. Dat is ongeveer 3 tot 5 euro per dag. Dat is een minimum dagloon in India.
KUMBH MELA ALLAHABAD
Vervolgens duiken we ons onder in het hindoeisme, in het Kumbh Mela festival. Dat is 's werelds grootste festival. Het duurt twee maanden, in totaal komen er meer dan 100 miljoen mensen. Uit heel India en Nepal komen de saddhu's (heilige mannen en ook enkele vrouwen) hier op pelgrimstocht. Het belangrijkste evenement is een duik in de heilige Ganges.
Het festival wordt gehouden op een tijdstip dat er een bepaalde gunstige sterren-constructie aan de hemel is. Dit komt een keer per 12 jaar voor. De vorige keer hebben we vanuit Varanasi een uitstapje gemaakt naar de Kumbh Mela. We vonden dat heel bijzonder. Er gebeurde van alles waar we niets van begrepen. Bovendien is het heel kleurrijk.
We blijven twee nachten. Dat leek ons lang genoeg met al die drukte. Eerst wilde ik een hotel in Allahabad boeken maar dat kostte minimaal 400 euro per kamer. Bovendien duurt het enkele uren voordat je vanuit de stad op het festivalterrein komt door alle drukte. Dus hebben we maar een luxe tent voor toeristen op het festivalterrein geboekt inclusief alle maaltijden.
We maken niet een van de hoogtepunten mee met processies. Als die plaatsvinden, moet je mimimaal 5 dagen blijven omdat er dan geen vervoer mogelijk is. Dat vonden we te lang.
We hebben wel voor de hele periode van het festival een gids tot onze beschikking. Hij brengt ons naar de badplaatsen en de verblijfplaatsen van verschillende groepen saddhu's en naga's (naakte heilige mannen die zich met as insmeren.)
Als uitsmijter gaan we nog enkele dagen naar Varanasi, de meest heilige plaats van India. We zijn er jaren geleden een week geweest en vonden het zo bijzonder dat we er nog eens naar toe willen. Varanasi ligt ook aan de Ganges. Hier wordt ook vaak een heilige duik genomen en hier vinden veel crematies plaats.

BOEDDHISME
Over enkele dagen vertrekken we voor de 8e keer voor een reis naar India. We zijn in totaal 18 dagen weg.
Eerst gaan we naar het noordoosten van India naar enkele plaatsen die met het leven van de Boeddha te maken hebben zoals zijn geboorte- en sterfplaats, en de plek waar hij vaak les heeft gegeven. Er zijn nog ruines over en er is activiteit van toeristen/pelgrims. Ik weet niet of het interessant is met al die ruines. Misschien is het wel wat saai maar desondanks wil ik het wel zien. Bert kan zich meer bij ruines voorstellen dan ik.
We verblijven ook enkele dagen in Nepal, in Lumbini, de geboorteplaats van de Boeddha. Voor de rondrit hebben we voor 10 dagen een taxi met Engels sprekende chauffeur gehuurd. We hebben alle hotels besproken.
Tot onze verbazing bleek dat we in alle plaatsen ook de beschikking hebben over een lokale gids, de we niet hebben gevraagd. De prijs verandert er niet door. Ik vermoed dat de gidsen voornamelijk van onze fooien moeten leven. Dat is ongeveer 3 tot 5 euro per dag. Dat is een minimum dagloon in India.
KUMBH MELA ALLAHABAD
Vervolgens duiken we ons onder in het hindoeisme, in het Kumbh Mela festival. Dat is 's werelds grootste festival. Het duurt twee maanden, in totaal komen er meer dan 100 miljoen mensen. Uit heel India en Nepal komen de saddhu's (heilige mannen en ook enkele vrouwen) hier op pelgrimstocht. Het belangrijkste evenement is een duik in de heilige Ganges.
Het festival wordt gehouden op een tijdstip dat er een bepaalde gunstige sterren-constructie aan de hemel is. Dit komt een keer per 12 jaar voor. De vorige keer hebben we vanuit Varanasi een uitstapje gemaakt naar de Kumbh Mela. We vonden dat heel bijzonder. Er gebeurde van alles waar we niets van begrepen. Bovendien is het heel kleurrijk.
We blijven twee nachten. Dat leek ons lang genoeg met al die drukte. Eerst wilde ik een hotel in Allahabad boeken maar dat kostte minimaal 400 euro per kamer. Bovendien duurt het enkele uren voordat je vanuit de stad op het festivalterrein komt door alle drukte. Dus hebben we maar een luxe tent voor toeristen op het festivalterrein geboekt inclusief alle maaltijden.
We maken niet een van de hoogtepunten mee met processies. Als die plaatsvinden, moet je mimimaal 5 dagen blijven omdat er dan geen vervoer mogelijk is. Dat vonden we te lang.
We hebben wel voor de hele periode van het festival een gids tot onze beschikking. Hij brengt ons naar de badplaatsen en de verblijfplaatsen van verschillende groepen saddhu's en naga's (naakte heilige mannen die zich met as insmeren.)
Als uitsmijter gaan we nog enkele dagen naar Varanasi, de meest heilige plaats van India. We zijn er jaren geleden een week geweest en vonden het zo bijzonder dat we er nog eens naar toe willen. Varanasi ligt ook aan de Ganges. Hier wordt ook vaak een heilige duik genomen en hier vinden veel crematies plaats.

Over enkele dagen vertrekken we voor de 8e keer voor een reis naar India. We zijn in totaal 18 dagen weg.
Eerst gaan we naar het noordoosten van India naar enkele plaatsen die met het leven van de Boeddha te maken hebben zoals zijn geboorte- en sterfplaats, en de plek waar hij vaak les heeft gegeven. Er zijn nog ruines over en er is activiteit van toeristen/pelgrims. Ik weet niet of het interessant is met al die ruines. Misschien is het wel wat saai maar desondanks wil ik het wel zien. Bert kan zich meer bij ruines voorstellen dan ik.
We verblijven ook enkele dagen in Nepal, in Lumbini, de geboorteplaats van de Boeddha. Voor de rondrit hebben we voor 10 dagen een taxi met Engels sprekende chauffeur gehuurd. We hebben alle hotels besproken.
Tot onze verbazing bleek dat we in alle plaatsen ook de beschikking hebben over een lokale gids, de we niet hebben gevraagd. De prijs verandert er niet door. Ik vermoed dat de gidsen voornamelijk van onze fooien moeten leven. Dat is ongeveer 3 tot 5 euro per dag. Dat is een minimum dagloon in India.
KUMBH MELA ALLAHABAD
Vervolgens duiken we ons onder in het hindoeisme, in het Kumbh Mela festival. Dat is 's werelds grootste festival. Het duurt twee maanden, in totaal komen er meer dan 100 miljoen mensen. Uit heel India en Nepal komen de saddhu's (heilige mannen en ook enkele vrouwen) hier op pelgrimstocht. Het belangrijkste evenement is een duik in de heilige Ganges.
Het festival wordt gehouden op een tijdstip dat er een bepaalde gunstige sterren-constructie aan de hemel is. Dit komt een keer per 12 jaar voor. De vorige keer hebben we vanuit Varanasi een uitstapje gemaakt naar de Kumbh Mela. We vonden dat heel bijzonder. Er gebeurde van alles waar we niets van begrepen. Bovendien is het heel kleurrijk.
We blijven twee nachten. Dat leek ons lang genoeg met al die drukte. Eerst wilde ik een hotel in Allahabad boeken maar dat kostte minimaal 400 euro per kamer. Bovendien duurt het enkele uren voordat je vanuit de stad op het festivalterrein komt door alle drukte. Dus hebben we maar een luxe tent voor toeristen op het festivalterrein geboekt inclusief alle maaltijden.
We maken niet een van de hoogtepunten mee met processies. Als die plaatsvinden, moet je mimimaal 5 dagen blijven omdat er dan geen vervoer mogelijk is. Dat vonden we te lang.
We hebben wel voor de hele periode van het festival een gids tot onze beschikking. Hij brengt ons naar de badplaatsen en de verblijfplaatsen van verschillende groepen saddhu's en naga's (naakte heilige mannen die zich met as insmeren.)
Als uitsmijter gaan we nog enkele dagen naar Varanasi, de meest heilige plaats van India. We zijn er jaren geleden een week geweest en vonden het zo bijzonder dat we er nog eens naar toe willen. Varanasi ligt ook aan de Ganges. Hier wordt ook vaak een heilige duik genomen en hier vinden veel crematies plaats.
