Omschrijving:
INLEIDING
We gaan 3,5 weken een rondreis maken. Eerst een week naar India, dan een week naar Nepal, in de hoofdstad Kathmandu, en tot slot een week naar Bhutan. Het weer ziet er overal goed uit. In India 25 tot 30 graden, in Nepal en Bhutan iets frisser want we zitten in de bergen (Himalaya), ongeveer 20 graden overdag en 's nachts ongeveer 5 graden. Maar overal is de kans heel groot op zonnig weer.
Gezien onze leeftijd en lichamelijke handicaps reizen we veel per vliegtuig en in de landen zelf met taxi met chauffeur.
Ons doel is eigenlijk Bhutan. Om daar te komen moet je via India, waar we nog een paar hoogtepunten willen zien. Onderweg naar Bhutan maken we nog een tussenstop in Kathmandu, een hele leuke plek.
We eindigen met een kleine rondreis in Bhutan.
INDIA
Dit is de 7e keer dat we naar India gaan. Er zijn nog een paar dingen die we heel graag willen zien. Het Nationaal Museum in Delhi schijnt vol prachtige oude voorwerpen te staan. Dan vliegen we naar Bhopal. Van hieruit maken we dagtochten naar Sanchi, een boedhistisch heiligdom uit de 3e eeuw v. Chr. en naar Bhimbetka waar 12.000 jaar oude rotsschilderingen zijn.
NEPAL
Dan vliegen we naar Kathmandu. Toevallig bleken er in de buurt net twee mooie festivals te zijn: het Tibetaans boeddhistisch Nieuwjaar (Losar) en het Shivaratri, een hindoeistisch festival. In Kathmandu houden we een relax-week met wat uitstapjes in de omgeving. We hebben de hele week een auto met chauffeur ter beschikking 20 a 30 euro per dag. Verder hebben we een hotel met verwarming geboekt. Vorig jaar in Sikkim, ook in de Himalaya, hebben we het 's avonds erg koud gehad en daar hadden we geen zin meer in. Ook hebben we extra warme kleding aangeschaft.
We zijn 20 jaar geleden voor het laatst in Nepal geweest. Ik hoop dat het door de enorme toename van het toerisme niet tegenvalt.
BHUTAN
Al jaren stond Bhutan op Tinys verlanglijst. Een boeddhistisch koninkrijk in de Himalaya tussen China en India. Maar Bhutan vraagt hoge prijzen aan toeristen in tegenstelling tot Nepal, een land dat overlopen wordt met budget-toerisme. In Nepal kwamen de eerste toeristen in 1950, in Bhutan in 1975. Geschrokken van de te snelle veranderingen in Nepal door de vele westerse reizigers (vooral hippies in de zeventiger jaren) besloot Bhutan het toerisme gecontroleerd toe te laten zodat de bevolking langzaamaan kon wennen aan het moderne leven zonder daarbij de eigen cultuur te verliezen. Ook wordt veel waarde gehecht aan duurzaam natuur- en milieubeheer. Er wordt veel gedaan aan onderwijs en gezondheidszorg, wegenaanleg en elektriciteit tot in de kleinste dorpen. In 1956 is de lijfeigenschap afgeschaft, in 2008 heeft de koning de democratie ingevoerd. Internet is nog beperkt. Dit beleid staat bekend als 'bruto nationaal geluk' in tegenstelling tot het economische 'bruto nationaal product'.
De grote attracties zijn de tempels, kloosters, rituelen en de natuur die eeuwenlang onveranderd zijn gebleven door zelfgekozen isolement. Beroemd zijn de boeddhistische festivals ter ere van de Tweede Boeddha, Padmasambhava. Natuurlijk staat een festival ook op ons programma. Vanwege de hoge prijs blijven we niet langer dan een week. Wel krijg je hiervoor volpension, gratis gezondheidszorg en een taxi met chauffeur en Engelssprekende gids voor de hele reis.
ISOLEMENT NEPAL EN BHUTAN
Nepal, Bhutan (en ook Sikkim en Tibet) zijn in veel opzichten vergelijkbaar. Deze landen bleven lang gesloten voor buitenlanders uit angst voor bezetting door de Engelsen of de Chinezen. Wegen legde men daarom liever niet aan. Met de Engelsen hadden Nepal en Bhutan een verdrag waarbij binnenlandse onafhankelijkheid werd gegarandeerd en Engeland de buitenlandse zaken regelde. Bij de onafhankelijkheid van India werden deze afspraken overgenomen. Toen Tibet in 1959 werd bezet door de Chinezen beseften de Bhutanezen dat ze zich ook moesten aansluiten bij de moderne wereld en dat isolationisme contraproductief werkte.
In 1975 nam India het boeddhistische koninkrijk Sikkim over na een opstand van geimmigreerde Nepalezen tegen de koning. Bhutan dat in het zuiden ook veel Nepalezen herbergt, reageerde hierop door geimmigreerde Nepalezen zonder papieren het land uit te zetten. Een aanzienlijk aantal van hen woont al enkele decennia in vluchtelingenkampen.

Geschrokken van de te snelle veranderingen in Nepal door de vele westerse reizigers (vooral hippies in de zeventiger jaren) besloot Bhutan het toerisme gecontroleerd toe te laten zodat de bevolking langzaamaan kon wennen aan het moderne leven zonder daarbij de eigen cultuur te verliezen. Ook wordt veel waarde gehecht aan duurzaam natuur- en milieubeheer. Er wordt veel gedaan aan onderwijs en gezondheidszorg, wegenaanleg en elektriciteit tot in de kleinste dorpen. In 1956 is de lijfeigenschap afgeschaft, in 2008 heeft de koning de democratie ingevoerd. Internet is nog beperkt. Dit beleid staat bekend als 'bruto nationaal geluk' in tegenstelling tot het economische 'bruto nationaal product'.
De grote attracties zijn de tempels, kloosters, rituelen en de natuur die eeuwenlang onveranderd zijn gebleven door zelfgekozen isolement. Beroemd zijn de boeddhistische festivals ter ere van de Tweede Boeddha, Padmasambhava. Natuurlijk staat een festival ook op ons programma. Vanwege de hoge prijs blijven we niet langer dan een week. Wel krijg je hiervoor volpension, gratis gezondheidszorg en een taxi met chauffeur en Engelssprekende gids voor de hele reis.
ISOLEMENT NEPAL EN BHUTAN
Nepal, Bhutan (en ook Sikkim en Tibet) zijn in veel opzichten vergelijkbaar. Deze landen bleven lang gesloten voor buitenlanders uit angst voor bezetting door de Engelsen of de Chinezen. Wegen legde men daarom liever niet aan. Met de Engelsen hadden Nepal en Bhutan een verdrag waarbij binnenlandse onafhankelijkheid werd gegarandeerd en Engeland de buitenlandse zaken regelde. Bij de onafhankelijkheid van India werden deze afspraken overgenomen. Toen Tibet in 1959 werd bezet door de Chinezen beseften de Bhutanezen dat ze zich ook moesten aansluiten bij de moderne wereld en dat isolationisme contraproductief werkte.
In 1975 nam India het boeddhistische koninkrijk Sikkim over na een opstand van geimmigreerde Nepalezen tegen de koning. Bhutan dat in het zuiden ook veel Nepalezen herbergt, reageerde hierop door geimmigreerde Nepalezen zonder papieren het land uit te zetten. Een aanzienlijk aantal van hen woont al enkele decennia in vluchtelingenkampen.

Omschrijving:
INLEIDING
We gaan 3,5 weken een rondreis maken. Eerst een week naar India, dan een week naar Nepal, in de hoofdstad Kathmandu, en tot slot een week naar Bhutan. Het weer ziet er overal goed uit. In India 25 tot 30 graden, in Nepal en Bhutan iets frisser want we zitten in de bergen (Himalaya), ongeveer 20 graden overdag en 's nachts ongeveer 5 graden. Maar overal is de kans heel groot op zonnig weer.
Gezien onze leeftijd en lichamelijke handicaps reizen we veel per vliegtuig en in de landen zelf met taxi met chauffeur.
Ons doel is eigenlijk Bhutan. Om daar te komen moet je via India, waar we nog een paar hoogtepunten willen zien. Onderweg naar Bhutan maken we nog een tussenstop in Kathmandu, een hele leuke plek.
We eindigen met een kleine rondreis in Bhutan.
INDIA
Dit is de 7e keer dat we naar India gaan. Er zijn nog een paar dingen die we heel graag willen zien. Het Nationaal Museum in Delhi schijnt vol prachtige oude voorwerpen te staan. Dan vliegen we naar Bhopal. Van hieruit maken we dagtochten naar Sanchi, een boedhistisch heiligdom uit de 3e eeuw v. Chr. en naar Bhimbetka waar 12.000 jaar oude rotsschilderingen zijn.
NEPAL
Dan vliegen we naar Kathmandu. Toevallig bleken er in de buurt net twee mooie festivals te zijn: het Tibetaans boeddhistisch Nieuwjaar (Losar) en het Shivaratri, een hindoeistisch festival. In Kathmandu houden we een relax-week met wat uitstapjes in de omgeving. We hebben de hele week een auto met chauffeur ter beschikking 20 a 30 euro per dag. Verder hebben we een hotel met verwarming geboekt. Vorig jaar in Sikkim, ook in de Himalaya, hebben we het 's avonds erg koud gehad en daar hadden we geen zin meer in. Ook hebben we extra warme kleding aangeschaft.
We zijn 20 jaar geleden voor het laatst in Nepal geweest. Ik hoop dat het door de enorme toename van het toerisme niet tegenvalt.
BHUTAN
Al jaren stond Bhutan op Tinys verlanglijst. Een boeddhistisch koninkrijk in de Himalaya tussen China en India. Maar Bhutan vraagt hoge prijzen aan toeristen in tegenstelling tot Nepal, een land dat overlopen wordt met budget-toerisme. In Nepal kwamen de eerste toeristen in 1950, in Bhutan in 1975. Geschrokken van de te snelle veranderingen in Nepal door de vele westerse reizigers (vooral hippies in de zeventiger jaren) besloot Bhutan het toerisme gecontroleerd toe te laten zodat de bevolking langzaamaan kon wennen aan het moderne leven zonder daarbij de eigen cultuur te verliezen. Ook wordt veel waarde gehecht aan duurzaam natuur- en milieubeheer. Er wordt veel gedaan aan onderwijs en gezondheidszorg, wegenaanleg en elektriciteit tot in de kleinste dorpen. In 1956 is de lijfeigenschap afgeschaft, in 2008 heeft de koning de democratie ingevoerd. Internet is nog beperkt. Dit beleid staat bekend als 'bruto nationaal geluk' in tegenstelling tot het economische 'bruto nationaal product'.
De grote attracties zijn de tempels, kloosters, rituelen en de natuur die eeuwenlang onveranderd zijn gebleven door zelfgekozen isolement. Beroemd zijn de boeddhistische festivals ter ere van de Tweede Boeddha, Padmasambhava. Natuurlijk staat een festival ook op ons programma. Vanwege de hoge prijs blijven we niet langer dan een week. Wel krijg je hiervoor volpension, gratis gezondheidszorg en een taxi met chauffeur en Engelssprekende gids voor de hele reis.
ISOLEMENT NEPAL EN BHUTAN
Nepal, Bhutan (en ook Sikkim en Tibet) zijn in veel opzichten vergelijkbaar. Deze landen bleven lang gesloten voor buitenlanders uit angst voor bezetting door de Engelsen of de Chinezen. Wegen legde men daarom liever niet aan. Met de Engelsen hadden Nepal en Bhutan een verdrag waarbij binnenlandse onafhankelijkheid werd gegarandeerd en Engeland de buitenlandse zaken regelde. Bij de onafhankelijkheid van India werden deze afspraken overgenomen. Toen Tibet in 1959 werd bezet door de Chinezen beseften de Bhutanezen dat ze zich ook moesten aansluiten bij de moderne wereld en dat isolationisme contraproductief werkte.
In 1975 nam India het boeddhistische koninkrijk Sikkim over na een opstand van geimmigreerde Nepalezen tegen de koning. Bhutan dat in het zuiden ook veel Nepalezen herbergt, reageerde hierop door geimmigreerde Nepalezen zonder papieren het land uit te zetten. Een aanzienlijk aantal van hen woont al enkele decennia in vluchtelingenkampen.

Omschrijving:
INLEIDING
We gaan 3,5 weken een rondreis maken. Eerst een week naar India, dan een week naar Nepal, in de hoofdstad Kathmandu, en tot slot een week naar Bhutan. Het weer ziet er overal goed uit. In India 25 tot 30 graden, in Nepal en Bhutan iets frisser want we zitten in de bergen (Himalaya), ongeveer 20 graden overdag en 's nachts ongeveer 5 graden. Maar overal is de kans heel groot op zonnig weer.
Gezien onze leeftijd en lichamelijke handicaps reizen we veel per vliegtuig en in de landen zelf met taxi met chauffeur.
Ons doel is eigenlijk Bhutan. Om daar te komen moet je via India, waar we nog een paar hoogtepunten willen zien. Onderweg naar Bhutan maken we nog een tussenstop in Kathmandu, een hele leuke plek.
We eindigen met een kleine rondreis in Bhutan.
INDIA
Dit is de 7e keer dat we naar India gaan. Er zijn nog een paar dingen die we heel graag willen zien. Het Nationaal Museum in Delhi schijnt vol prachtige oude voorwerpen te staan. De grote attracties zijn de tempels, kloosters, rituelen en de natuur die eeuwenlang onveranderd zijn gebleven door zelfgekozen isolement. Beroemd zijn de boeddhistische festivals ter ere van de Tweede Boeddha, Padmasambhava. Natuurlijk staat een festival ook op ons programma. Vanwege de hoge prijs blijven we niet langer dan een week. Wel krijg je hiervoor volpension, gratis gezondheidszorg en een taxi met chauffeur en Engelssprekende gids voor de hele reis.
ISOLEMENT NEPAL EN BHUTAN
Nepal, Bhutan (en ook Sikkim en Tibet) zijn in veel opzichten vergelijkbaar. Deze landen bleven lang gesloten voor buitenlanders uit angst voor bezetting door de Engelsen of de Chinezen. Wegen legde men daarom liever niet aan. Met de Engelsen hadden Nepal en Bhutan een verdrag waarbij binnenlandse onafhankelijkheid werd gegarandeerd en Engeland de buitenlandse zaken regelde. Bij de onafhankelijkheid van India werden deze afspraken overgenomen. Toen Tibet in 1959 werd bezet door de Chinezen beseften de Bhutanezen dat ze zich ook moesten aansluiten bij de moderne wereld en dat isolationisme contraproductief werkte.
In 1975 nam India het boeddhistische koninkrijk Sikkim over na een opstand van geimmigreerde Nepalezen tegen de koning. Bhutan dat in het zuiden ook veel Nepalezen herbergt, reageerde hierop door geimmigreerde Nepalezen zonder papieren het land uit te zetten. Een aanzienlijk aantal van hen woont al enkele decennia in vluchtelingenkampen.

Omschrijving:
INLEIDING
We gaan 3,5 weken een rondreis maken. Eerst een week naar India, dan een week naar Nepal, in de hoofdstad Kathmandu, en tot slot een week naar Bhutan. Het weer ziet er overal goed uit. In India 25 tot 30 graden, in Nepal en Bhutan iets frisser want we zitten in de bergen (Himalaya), ongeveer 20 graden overdag en 's nachts ongeveer 5 graden. Maar overal is de kans heel groot op zonnig weer.
Gezien onze leeftijd en lichamelijke handicaps reizen we veel per vliegtuig en in de landen zelf met taxi met chauffeur.
Ons doel is eigenlijk Bhutan. Om daar te komen moet je via India, waar we nog een paar hoogtepunten willen zien. Onderweg naar Bhutan maken we nog een tussenstop in Kathmandu, een hele leuke plek.
We eindigen met een kleine rondreis in Bhutan.
INDIA
Dit is de 7e keer dat we naar India gaan. Er zijn nog een paar dingen die we heel graag willen zien. Het Nationaal Museum in Delhi schijnt vol prachtige oude voorwerpen te staan. Dan vliegen we naar Bhopal. Van hieruit maken we dagtochten naar Sanchi, een boedhistisch heiligdom uit de 3e eeuw v. Chr. en naar Bhimbetka waar 12.000 jaar oude rotsschilderingen zijn.
NEPAL
Dan vliegen we naar Kathmandu. Toevallig bleken er in de buurt net twee mooie festivals te zijn: het Tibetaans boeddhistisch Nieuwjaar (Losar) en het Shivaratri, een hindoeistisch festival. In Kathmandu houden we een relax-week met wat uitstapjes in de omgeving. We hebben de hele week een auto met chauffeur ter beschikking 20 a 30 euro per dag. Verder hebben we een hotel met verwarming geboekt. Vorig jaar in Sikkim, ook in de Himalaya, hebben we het 's avonds erg koud gehad en daar hadden we geen zin meer in. Ook hebben we extra warme kleding aangeschaft.
We zijn 20 jaar geleden voor het laatst in Nepal geweest. Ik hoop dat het door de enorme toename van het toerisme niet tegenvalt.
BHUTAN
Al jaren stond Bhutan op Tinys verlanglijst. Een boeddhistisch koninkrijk in de Himalaya tussen China en India. Maar Bhutan vraagt hoge prijzen aan toeristen in tegenstelling tot Nepal, een land dat overlopen wordt met budget-toerisme. In Nepal kwamen de eerste toeristen in 1950, in Bhutan in 1975. Geschrokken van de te snelle veranderingen in Nepal door de vele westerse reizigers (vooral hippies in de zeventiger jaren) besloot Bhutan het toerisme gecontroleerd toe te laten zodat de bevolking langzaamaan kon wennen aan het moderne leven zonder daarbij de eigen cultuur te verliezen. Ook wordt veel waarde gehecht aan duurzaam natuur- en milieubeheer. Er wordt veel gedaan aan onderwijs en gezondheidszorg, wegenaanleg en elektriciteit tot in de kleinste dorpen. In 1956 is de lijfeigenschap afgeschaft, in 2008 heeft de koning de democratie ingevoerd. Internet is nog beperkt. Dit beleid staat bekend als 'bruto nationaal geluk' in tegenstelling tot het economische 'bruto nationaal product'.

[description] => INLEIDING
We gaan 3,5 weken een rondreis maken. Eerst een week naar India, dan een week naar Nepal, in de hoofdstad Kathmandu, en tot slot een week naar Bhutan. Het weer ziet er overal goed uit. In India 25 tot 30 graden, in Nepal en Bhutan iets frisser want we zitten in de bergen (Himalaya), ongeveer 20 graden overdag en 's nachts ongeveer 5 graden. Maar overal is de kans heel groot op zonnig weer.
Gezien onze leeftijd en lichamelijke handicaps reizen we veel per vliegtuig en in de landen zelf met taxi met chauffeur.
Ons doel is eigenlijk Bhutan. Om daar te komen moet je via India, waar we nog een paar hoogtepunten willen zien. Onderweg naar Bhutan maken we nog een tussenstop in Kathmandu, een hele leuke plek.
We eindigen met een kleine rondreis in Bhutan.
INDIA
Dit is de 7e keer dat we naar India gaan. Er zijn nog een paar dingen die we heel graag willen zien. Het Nationaal Museum in Delhi schijnt vol prachtige oude voorwerpen te staan. Dan vliegen we naar Bhopal. Van hieruit maken we dagtochten naar Sanchi, een boedhistisch heiligdom uit de 3e eeuw v. Chr. en naar Bhimbetka waar 12.000 jaar oude rotsschilderingen zijn.
NEPAL
Dan vliegen we naar Kathmandu. Toevallig bleken er in de buurt net twee mooie festivals te zijn: het Tibetaans boeddhistisch Nieuwjaar (Losar) en het Shivaratri, een hindoeistisch festival. In Kathmandu houden we een relax-week met wat uitstapjes in de omgeving. We hebben de hele week een auto met chauffeur ter beschikking 20 a 30 euro per dag. Verder hebben we een hotel met verwarming geboekt. Vorig jaar in Sikkim, ook in de Himalaya, hebben we het 's avonds erg koud gehad en daar hadden we geen zin meer in. Ook hebben we extra warme kleding aangeschaft.
We zijn 20 jaar geleden voor het laatst in Nepal geweest. Ik hoop dat het door de enorme toename van het toerisme niet tegenvalt.
BHUTAN
Al jaren stond Bhutan op Tinys verlanglijst. Een boeddhistisch koninkrijk in de Himalaya tussen China en India. Maar Bhutan vraagt hoge prijzen aan toeristen in tegenstelling tot Nepal, een land dat overlopen wordt met budget-toerisme. In Nepal kwamen de eerste toeristen in 1950, in Bhutan in 1975. Geschrokken van de te snelle veranderingen in Nepal door de vele westerse reizigers (vooral hippies in de zeventiger jaren) besloot Bhutan het toerisme gecontroleerd toe te laten zodat de bevolking langzaamaan kon wennen aan het moderne leven zonder daarbij de eigen cultuur te verliezen. Ook wordt veel waarde gehecht aan duurzaam natuur- en milieubeheer. Er wordt veel gedaan aan onderwijs en gezondheidszorg, wegenaanleg en elektriciteit tot in de kleinste dorpen. In 1956 is de lijfeigenschap afgeschaft, in 2008 heeft de koning de democratie ingevoerd. Internet is nog beperkt. Dit beleid staat bekend als 'bruto nationaal geluk' in tegenstelling tot het economische 'bruto nationaal product'.
De grote attracties zijn de tempels, kloosters, rituelen en de natuur die eeuwenlang onveranderd zijn gebleven door zelfgekozen isolement. Beroemd zijn de boeddhistische festivals ter ere van de Tweede Boeddha, Padmasambhava. Natuurlijk staat een festival ook op ons programma. Vanwege de hoge prijs blijven we niet langer dan een week. Wel krijg je hiervoor volpension, gratis gezondheidszorg en een taxi met chauffeur en Engelssprekende gids voor de hele reis.
ISOLEMENT NEPAL EN BHUTAN
Nepal, Bhutan (en ook Sikkim en Tibet) zijn in veel opzichten vergelijkbaar. Deze landen bleven lang gesloten voor buitenlanders uit angst voor bezetting door de Engelsen of de Chinezen. Wegen legde men daarom liever niet aan. Met de Engelsen hadden Nepal en Bhutan een verdrag waarbij binnenlandse onafhankelijkheid werd gegarandeerd en Engeland de buitenlandse zaken regelde. Bij de onafhankelijkheid van India werden deze afspraken overgenomen. Toen Tibet in 1959 werd bezet door de Chinezen beseften de Bhutanezen dat ze zich ook moesten aansluiten bij de moderne wereld en dat isolationisme contraproductief werkte.
In 1975 nam India het boeddhistische koninkrijk Sikkim over na een opstand van geimmigreerde Nepalezen tegen de koning. Bhutan dat in het zuiden ook veel Nepalezen herbergt, reageerde hierop door geimmigreerde Nepalezen zonder papieren het land uit te zetten. Een aanzienlijk aantal van hen woont al enkele decennia in vluchtelingenkampen.
